Americold, the U.S.-based temperature-controlled logistics provider, has announced a strategic expansion into Canada with the development of a new cold chain facility at an eastern Canadian port. According to FreightWaves, the project marks a significant move by the company to strengthen its North American footprint through integrated multimodal transportation capabilities.
The facility will operate as part of a coordinated logistics network combining rail and maritime transport, with partnerships involving Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) and DP World. This integrated approach aims to streamline perishable goods distribution across North American supply chains by connecting inland rail networks with international ocean shipping capabilities.
The expansion reflects growing demand for efficient cold chain infrastructure in North America, where perishable product exports and imports have become increasingly time-sensitive. By positioning itself at a port hub with direct rail access, Americold enhances its ability to serve shippers requiring seamless transitions between rail and ocean transportation modes.
